Tours that include Kerala
Escape the bump and jumble of India, and set your sight on Kerala, a fertile isthmus of land, between the Arabian Sea and the Western Ghats. An anything goes and anything grows kind of place, it’s easy to let your hair down and enjoy the spice-laden gastronomic offerings of the region. While you may be tempted by sanitised sites and reassuring stop-gaps in the Southern India trail, Thirumvananthapuram (or Trivandrum for short) hosts a selection of resorts and surprising little caveats, including a zoological garden, habituated by tigers and other native fauna.
Tigers? Resorts? Is there any more to it? Certainly! Due north of the capital is the reggae haven Varkala, a popular out-of-the-way stop with attuned travellers; while there isn’t much to do, the arching cliff faces and golden beaches ensure boredom will be kept at arm’s length, as a quick dip and hours of sun will help you sweat out the cacophonous humdrum of mainland India. Take a secreted route into the bends and turns of the Kerala backwaters, and stop in Quilon for a bite of cashew strewn cuisine, before exploring the networks of rivers, lagoons, canals and secreted rice paddies that signify the true spirit of Kerala.
