If you’re looking for beautiful places to relax and unwind on your travels, head to Portofino, a picturesque harbour town on the coast of the Ligurian sea. With history dating back centuries, and plenty of opportunities for a low-key, active holiday, Portofino is a gem of a town.
Portofino must see & do
1Walk along the scenic pathway, past the quaint San Georgio church, take a slight detour to check out the lighthouse, and continue on to the Castello Brown
2Eat as much seafood as your body can handle.
3Take a hike! Traipse along the coastal routes for a stunning water view, or venture inland through the beautiful Italian flora. You may even see some of the beautiful olive tree groves growing on the outskirts of town.
4Go diving or swimming in the permitted areas along the coastline – just make sure you don’t enter in the protected areas
5Take an extended walk, or travel more quickly by boat, to the Abbazia di San Fruttuoso, a picturesque 11th century abbey on the other side of the peninsula. There is an underwater statue of Christ of the Abyss, the protector of fishermen and divers.
Tours that include Portofino
Take some time to orientate yourself with walks through the city and along the harbour, but be sure to venture outside of the main harbour area when looking for meals, or be prepared for a hike in prices.
- Faro di Portofino (Lighthouse)
- Castello Brown
There are numerous opportunities for walking through the city, and the faro di Portofino (lighthouse, if your Italian isn’t quite up to scratch) provides a beautiful lookout opportunity over the town and harbour. Watch the scuba divers down below (and consider booking in for your own underwater adventure), and then continue on to the Castello Brown (castle) for a spectacular view of the area. Of course you will be starving after all this activity, so take advantage of the fresh, well-cooked seafood available everywhere.
